Hello Backers, Friends, and Family,
Well, we did it! Our Kickstarter was the culmination of a year and a half of work, with the last several months being a particularly mad dash to the finish line. And somehow it all worked out better than we ever could have hoped for.
I hope you're sitting down, because this is a BIG update.
Believe it or not, there's a LOT of work that goes into a Kickstarter. Aside from creating Morsel itself, we also had to create all the photos, videos, copy, social media, ads, and webpages. And we had to engage with a wide variety of communities, online and in person, reach out to media, and keep up with responding to an ever-growing list of messages and questions. Morsel received 5341 backers - that's a LOT of people! We've received literally hundreds of messages and questions, and have been doing our best to reply.
Here's the real reason we haven't sat down and spent several consecutive days chugging coffee and catching up on responding to every last one of your questions and comments: we've been busting our asses to get Morsel into your hands as quick as we possibly can!
We've been working closely with our factory in California to nail down the final details. In engineering-talk, we call that the Design For Manufacturing (DFM) phase. Our DFM is finally done, and we start cutting the tools this week! Yes, tools - plural. As you probably noticed, we met our stretch goal for Morsel Mini! That means our backers will have 3 options when they check out: Morsel, Morsel Spoon, or Morsel Mini.
Many of you have been asking when and how you'll be able to select a Morsel Spoon or Morsel Mini as an option. In the next 2-3 weeks, we will be sending out personalized shipping surveys to all of our backers. In addition to collecting your shipping address, you'll have the option to choose what type of Morsel you want. You'll also have the chance to add additional Morsels (or Spoons or Minis!) to your order at that time with special discounted pricing.
If you've got your heart set on Morsel Mini, we do have one small caveat: Morsel Mini will be shipped out 1-2 months later than Morsel and Morsel Spoon (which are still on track!). This is because we started turning the gears with our factory on day 2 of our campaign, the second we met our goal. That gave us a nice headstart on the manufacturing timeline. These are precision molds, and they take time to dial in. Since we just met our Mini stretch goal on the final day, we're only just now starting on the production process with Mini.
We'll be posting an update on colors in the next 1-2 weeks. Alex has been obsessing over Pantone color swatches, trying to find the perfect shades. No spoilers ;)
To ensure quick delivery to our backers, our factory will be shipping our inventory directly to our fulfillment vendor, who will already have our final backer list and should be able to turn around and ship to everyone (all 5341 of you!) within just a few short days. We figure we'd screw it up if we tried to fulfill ourselves, so we're using a reputable fulfillment company to handle all of our shipping for us.
We'll be adding to our FAQ over the coming weeks as well, which will include information for backers who were part of our Thunderclap or Backerclub campaigns and may have additional questions.
Please take it easy on us in the comments section. Right now, we're just two guys burning the midnight oil, trying our darndest to meet our shipping deadlines and get Morsel into YOUR hands. The night our Kickstarter ended, Zac was up until 5am working on files that needed to be sent to the factory. Believe us, we are f*cking committed to this spork. The two of us are wearing all the hats at Morsel, and we're starting to go a bit bonkers, but we figure delivering Morsel to our backers on time is still the #1 most important thing.
To our backers: Thank you all so much for your support. We're obsessing over every last detail to ensure that Morsel is 110% the quality product you all want and expect. We think you're going to love it.
And with that, I'm off - I have to wake up early tomorow to meet with our packaging vendor! It never ends. But it's glorious and we wouldn't change it for the world.
Spork on,
Zac and Alex
Team Morsel
